Well, we made the long drive to California, once again, to share Thanksgiving with my family. We had a wonderful feast. Every year my dad makes his prize winning (not really, but you know what I mean) yams, and my mom makes the BEST turkey ever!
My contribution was the pies, the one time a year I actually make homemade crust. I made a boysenberry pie and a coconut cream pie. Now the boysenberry pie was very good, but let me elaborate on my coconut cream if I may. I got the recipe from a neighbor and let me tell you-it was so good I couldn't take it!! Now this wasn't made from a pudding mix mind you, which in years past in my opinion was still very homemade--this was completely from scratch.
I made the crust, the cream, toasted the coconut-everything. Now this may not be a big deal for all you great cooks out there, but for me who likes to simplify and loves all things coconut, this pie was simply delicious! Okay, enough said. Thanksgiving was a great day! We spent the rest of the week shopping (you think Black Friday is scary in Idaho??) movies, John's Incredible Pizza, and lots and lots of food! A great time was had by all.

HOW FUN! CONGRATS ON THE PIE. MAYBE YOU SHOULD POST THAT RECIPE SOME TIME? ;-) PROPS TO YOU FOR MAKING A HOMEMADE CRUST, THAT IS MUCH TO BE PROUD OF RIGHT THERE! I STILL CAN'T GET THEM RIGHT!
did you hear our husbands plotting ANOTHER fishing trip last night! Seriously, you need to pull the pregnancy card out on them!;-)
I'm very impressed! I would love the recipe some time. I love coconut, too. So glad you had a great thanksgiving. Thanks again for taking over the neighborhood service project. That was a relief for me!!
YUM! Your pies sound good! I wish my pies turned out. I asked Rich to bring me home some cream cheese for the cheesecake, he brought home fat free cream cheese! I used it away, it didn't set up right. And my crust didn't taste like grandma's recipe at all!
I'm glad you guys had a fun trip to California. What a great way to spend Thanksgiving. I'm really impressed by your pie making skills. Our pumpkin pie was made by Marie Calendar this year. Sounds like you put a lot of work into that pie, but like it was worth it.
