We May Not Have It All Together...

Or should I say I may not have it all together. This last couple of weeks have been really crazy. We have been doing some major landscaping in the yard which have resulted in many long days and late nights, and it has really taken a toll on my capabilities to function normally. Lately I’ve been noticing signs that I’m losing it! Here are just a few:

1. Josh and I come inside from a late night of yard work to the kids who’ve been tearing up the house inside. We did manage to get all the kids knelt down for family prayer at 10:30 to which Emma says in a very sleepy voice, “Mom, when are we going to have dinner?”
2. My last 4-5 gallons of milk and loaves of bread have been purchased at the local gas station, Speedi Mart. Which is a direct reflection of my inability to make it to the grocery store. Well, at least we had milk and bread, right?
3. Riley, my baby, has a tendency to wander. She’s always been a handful. In the last couple of weeks several of my neighbors have found her in THEIR yard just hanging out. It doesn’t look good when your neighbor brings over your baby and you didn’t even realize she had left OUR yard.
4. The other day I was in the backyard doing some yard work, what else, and I look over to my neighbors back porch and I notice a little girl standing there in nothing but a diaper. I thought to myself, oh maybe the new family has moved in and they have a little girl my baby’s age. Oh, and isn’t that sad she has no clothes or shoes on. Then upon further looking, I notice that naked orphan looking child is mine!

These are just a few things that made me realize, snap out of it, I’ve got to get it together! Thankfully our yard is done—for now. After many long nights, trips to Chiropractor, muscle relaxers, fast food take outs, hot showers, sunburns, and calloused hands our kids are ready to have their mom and dad back to normal—whatever that may be. I've learned in the last couple of weeks that we may wake up in the morning and expect our day to go one way, and a lot of times it goes another. We are capable of so much more than we realize. There are times when we’re not at the top of our game, and there are days that we may feel like Super Mom. But I know that all we can do it try our best. I’m grateful that at the start of each day I can try to be better. And at the end of each day, “We may not have it all together… but together we have it all.”

I'm glad you were able to get your lawn in. I heard that it looks really good. Thank heavens kids are resilient. I definately have had days where I feel like a mediocre mom. I've always been impressed at the parenting job the two of you do. Your kids are lucky to have good (yet normal) parents.

Your lawn looks great!! I can tell you have spent lots of late nights and long days. My little baby is a wanderer too...I promise not to think poorly of you if you can do the same for me:) At least Riley had her diaper on...my little girl will take hers off if she doesn't have any pants on. I will keep my out for Riley :)

You're so funny! The yard was worth it, it looks great! What would we do without SpeediMart?!! It's nice to know we're not alone in the ups and downs of trying to keep it together!

So true. So true. I have always loved that quote.
Don't be so hard on yourself. It sounds like you are simply normal! We all have those moments.

Hugs!

You know Kelly, if that is the worst it gets, you are doing fantastic in my book! You kids remained fed, by whatever means, and dressed....a diaper counts, and loved. When you are overloaded that is all you can expect of yourself. Now that the crazy time is over you can get back to real life just in time for school! YIPEEEE!

Cant wait to see your yard! I bet it's nice to have life be back to normal, and feel more on top of things! It's hard to keep things on track when you have big projects like that. I bet your glad it's done!
